BC, Vilnius, 19.06.2013.Print version
Lithuania's Parliament has ratified the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and the Republic of Serbia, of the other part, which was signed in Luxembourg in 2008, informs LETA/ELTA.

The ratification of the EU-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Agreement was supported by 73 MPs to zero, with 4 abstentions.

The agreement liberalizes the conditions of the establishment, current payments and capital movements, facilitates two-way investment and its protection.

The Seimas also adopted by common agreement a protocol resolution, which expresses the support for Serbia in its endeavours to implement political, economic and institutional reforms consistently and to take over the core values of the EU, including democracy, respect for human rights, the rule of law and the principles of market economy.

Lithuania's parliament emphasized that Serbia needs to continue with its substantial efforts in improving the economic and business environment in Serbia through the rule of law and protection of foreign direct investment.

In the protocol resolution the Seimas also noted that investors from Lithuania had suffered massive material losses as a consequence of the actions taken by the Serbian national authorities and that the issue of compensation for the losses had not been settled yet.
