On 19 December, Lithuania’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius had a phone conversation with the Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt. The Ministers highlighted the dynamic and deep cooperation between Lithuania and Sweden, and agreed to further strengthen and promote it, informed BC Lithuanian MFA.

According to the Ministers, the Eastern Partnership initiative and preparations for the 3rd Eastern Partnership Summit in 2013 in Vilnius are among other key issues on the international agenda. The Ministers agreed to discuss in more detail these and other issues on the regional and international agenda during the traditional informal Snow Meeting of experts in international and security politics from Europe and North America in Trakai in January next year.

Lithuania and Sweden have been enjoying intensive bilateral and regional ties. Sweden remains the largest foreign direct investor in Lithuania.

In 2013, Sweden will coordinate the Nordic Baltic Eight (NB8). In 2012, Lithuania was at the helm of NB8. Next year, Sweden will also hold the Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers.
