Lithuania govt announces 5 international SEZ management tenders

Petras Vaida, BC, Vilnius, 17.08.2012.Print version
The Government of Lithuania invites companies and individuals to participate in a series of international management tenders for the operation of five Special Economic Zones (SEZ), Invest Lithuania reports. Applicants will be selected on the basis of the viability of their business plans for one or more of the zones located in the Siauliai, Panevezys, Kedainiai, Marijampole and Akmene regions of Lithuania, reported BC Domas Girtavicius from „Invest Lithuania“.

"The two SEZs that are already up and running have set a good precedent for how managerial skills coupled with business expertise can generate lucrative business opportunities and sustainable regional development. Located in Kaunas and Klaipeda, they regularly score high on international SEZ performance rankings. Exports from these zones account for up to 10 per cent of total national exports. I expect the new SEZs will have the same rejuvenating effect on the industries of their host cities as well," said Milda Darguzaite, Managing Director of Invest Lithuania.

The winner of each tender will set up a zone management company and sign a management agreement with an institution authorized by the Government of Lithuania, valid for 49 years. The zone management company will be responsible for attracting investors who will establish production and service companies in the zone and create new jobs.

The zone management company will enjoy the right, among others, to register economic entities in the zone, determine the internal rules of procedure in the zone, sublease the land and real estate to enterprises registered in the zone, as well as to establish service providers in the zone.

The deadline for submitting an offer is 4 October 2012.
