"We have looked for answers to questions important to us, the Austrians tried to find answers, however, not all of the questions received answers. I would say that the fundamental question remained unanswered," Justice Deputy Minister Tomas Vaitkevicius said Thursday, commenting on the results of the meeting, writes LETA/ELTA.
The key question why Austria thought that Lithuania's submitted information on Golovatov's charges was insufficient remained unclear. The deputy minister says that the Austrians claimed to have specified what information they needed, however, Lithuania did not receive a request for that information to be submitted. So it remained unclear what really happened, no specific explanations were given, Vaitkevicius said.
Yet, the deputy minister views the first meeting as constructive. He said that the Austrian side admitted that the consular assistance rendered to Golovatov overstepped the usual practice of consular assistance as the Russian Embassy was very active in the matter. The working group of the Lithuanian, Austrian and the EU representatives has not scheduled the next meeting yet, however, the work will continue and the following sitting will take place in Vienna.
