Borloo and Parts discussed energy security in Estonia

At the meeting that took place on Friday the Estonian minister of economic affairs and communications Juhan Parts and the French minister of energy, ecology, sustainable development and spatial planning Jean-Louis Borloo concluded that it is important to find a common way in the development of European energy sector which would also take into account the particular nature of Member States.

As France will start its Presidency of the European Union next month, Borloo stated that he considers it important to determine how to conciliate EU solidarity and energy security in a situation where some Member States, including Estonia have their particularities, writes Postimees Online/LETA.

 

“The keyword is energy security for all. The energy sector will have to undergo changes, but do it so that the price of energy would be affordable for the enterprises and citizens,” stated Borloo. He added that energy security is particularly important for Estonia as it directly means ensuring energy supplies.

 

The ministers also exchanged ideas over the EU climate package.

 

Juhan Parts stated that the objective of the meeting was to inform the future Presidency of Estonia’s interests and situation. “I believe that our particular situation will be met with understanding,” he said.
