The government approved on Thursday of burdening a lot in Kuressaare for 30 years with housing rights in favour of rubber and metal products producer OÜ Trelleborg Industrial Products Estonia.

The volume of investments connected to Trelleborg’s expansion will amout to an estimated 100 million kroons. A new production building will be erected, machinery and equipment will be bought, government’s press bureau said.

The number of employees will grow from 80 to 300.

The company’s CEO Kalver Kirs says that the company will transfer a part of production from plants in Sjöbo, Hemse, Örebro and Forsheda, Sweden to Saaremaa, where production costs are lower.

Last year, Trelleborg closed a plant in Mörbylanga and a part of the production moved to Kuressaare already.

Trelleborg is listed at the Stockholm bourse and its annual turnover is 3.3 bln euro.
