Lithuanians living in Iceland decided to form community in Reykjavik

The community"s board of directors is to be elected at this meeting and future activities of the organization are to be discussed. Initiators think already now that the main directions of activities will be education of children, culture and sports, informs ELTA.
According to Inga Minelgaite, one of the initiators of the establishment of this community, the Community of Lithuanians in Iceland will be special because it will also accept all those Icelanders who are related in some way to Lithuania.
According to Minelgaite, the fact that Lithuanians in Iceland have decided to gather together, does not necessarily mean that most of them will remain living there for all their life.
According to the data available to Minelgaite, there are about 1,500 Lithuanian nationals in Iceland; mainly unskilled workers and those working in construction sector.
