Latvia has the fourth fastest Internet speed in the world, according to "State of the Internet" report by cloud platform provider Akamai Technologies, reports LETA, referring to Bloomberg.

''When thinking about the most technologically advanced nations, Latvia probably doesn't come to mind. But broadband lines there reached an average peak speed of 37.5 megabits per second, placing the country in the top four,'' the company's report points out. "Some of the Eastern European countries that are on here have a good reputation for Internet connectivity. They're smaller. They have a lot of government backing."

The fastest Internet speed in the world is in Hong Kong – 54.1 megabits per second, followed by South Korea – 48.8 megabits per second, and Japan – 42.2 megabits per second.

The United States has the 14th fastest internet speed in the world – megabits per second.
