Kirkilas accentuated Lithuania’s achievements in economy

Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas making a report on Government’s activities in 2007 at the Seimas singled out the country’s achievements in economy and provided a lot of statistical data concerning growth in GDP, remuneration, pensions and different social benefits as well as increase in budget revenue, though it is deficit, informs ELTA.

The head of the Government recalled a birth rate which had been increasing for a third year in a row.

 

According to him, long-term maternity and paternity leaves as well as pay for them have contributed to growing childbirths. He was also pleased with achievements in the energy field.

 

The PM stressed that the Government’s report was being delivered at the Seimas when "political passions were fairly intense".

 

Kirkilas emphasized in his report that the Government had practically finished implementing its program on labor, social security and family policies. Its completion is scheduled for the end of 2008.

 

The PM reminded that Lithuania’s unemployment rate was lower than the EU average.
