Latvia and Lithuania register decreases in industrial production output in August, Estonia – growth

Compared to August 2012, industrial production output in Latvia fell by 3.5% in August 2013 – the fifth steepest decrease in the European Union, according to the EU's statistical office Eurostat. Industrial production output in Lithuania fell 0.4%, in Estonia – rose 1.5%, informs LETA.

Similarly to Latvia, Croatia and France also registered 3.5% decreases in industrial production output this past August.

 

The largest year-on-year increases in industrial production output were registered in Romania – 6%, Slovakia – 4.3%, the Czech Republic – 4.2%.

 

The largest year-on-year reductions were recorded in Sweden – 7.9%, Greece – 7.5%, Ireland – 5.9%, Italy – 4.6%.

 

In all EU member states for which data are available, industrial production output reduced 1.6% in August 2013, in the euro area – 2.1%. Compared to August 2012, industrial production output rose in nine countries and reduced in 14 in August 2013.

 

In comparison with July 2013, industrial production output grew 0.5% in the EU and 1% in the euro area in August 2013. Month-on-month, industrial production output increased in 13 countries and decreased in ten.

 

The steepest month-on-month increases in industrial production output were observed in Portugal – 8.2%, Malta – 7.2%, the Czech Republic – 4.7%.

 

The largest month-on-month decreases were reported by Estonia – 3.5%, Sweden – 2.8%, Latvia – 2%.

 

Industrial production in Lithuania grew 3.4% month-on-month.
