"I think that there are several reasons for this war – one of them is economic. Russia is trying to suspend the import from other countries in order to strengthen the home market because, at this moment, the growth of Russia's market slows down and even a bigger slowdown is forecasted," said Mauricas while giving an interview on radio show Laisvoji Banga

According to Mauricas, Russia's declarations had effect on the image of Lithuania, as reliable partner.

However, according to Mauricas, Russia's actions were not calculated because the current situation was not only the problem of Lithuania.

"We are members of the European Union, NATO and the World Trade Organization (WTO) and our strategy should be – the publicity. In such a way, Russia would damage its image as corruptive, unreliable and whimsical partner with wish nobody wants to have the business relations," said the Nordea Bank Lithuania chief economist.
