According to Estonian justice ministry statistics, 26,292 crimes were registered in Estonia in the first eight months of the year 2013, which was by 4% less than at the same time last year, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

The number of theft cases has fallen while fraudulence and robberies are on increase.

The number of fraudulence cases grew most, 34% in a year and are mostly connected to mobile phone purchase fraud and not delivering goods perished over the internet.

The number of robberies grew by 9% and that of bodily abuse 6% in a year. The latter is largely due to the police's changed attitude towards crimes of that type, said justice minister Hanno Pevkur.

The number of thefts has fallen by 12% and traffic crimes by 4%.

42 cases of serious crimes against persons – murders and manslaughters were registered, by 10 less than at the same time last year.
