BC, Riga, 16.06.2013.Print version
78% Latvian resident do not recognize or have problems remembering the denominations of the euro currency, according to a survey carried out by the information technology company Tilde, cites LETA/Nozare.lv.

Persons were asked the different denominations of the euro currency, with many answering, incorrectly, denominations of 30, 60, 80 and even 1,000 euros, which do not exist.

Only about 22% of those surveyed were able to correctly name the different denominations of the euro currency.

Tilde spokeswoman Ilze Lapina said that the survey confirms that the public lacks information on the euro currency.

''For many older persons, when we showed them how the euro looks, this was the first time they had seen the currency,'' Lapina said.

Tilde surveyed 150 persons of various ages on Riga's streets.

Latvia is planning on introducing the euro in 2014.
