An informal discussion, which was attended by Europe's prominent experts in financial, economic and foreign policy matters, focused on the main tasks of the Lithuanian presidency, the situation in Europe, and the progress by the member states in overcoming economic challenges. The participants also exchanged insights on the EU's relations with its external partners, including the Eastern Partnership countries.

Grybauskaite has noted that the EU presidency is a very responsible task, which requires not only good preparation but also providing comprehensive information to all major European policy makers, including the scientists who are shaping the main directions of EU studies, on the objectives and work performed. And listening to expert evaluation of the political topics Lithuania will face during its presidency of the EU Council.

"Lithuania is no longer EU's newcomer, but an equal and reliable member state. It will be the first time that we are entrusted to guide the legislative process of the entire EU. It is a great responsibility. We will seek to justify the confidence reposed in us and duly represent the interests of European people," she said.

Among the participants of the meeting were representatives of major centers of European studies and political science – Bruegel, the German Marshall Fund, the Centre for European Policy Studies, Lisbon Council, and other organizations.
