Latvia has EU's fifth highest VAT rate

Latvia's value added tax rate is the fifth highest in the European Union, according to the latest data from the EU's statistical office Eurostat.

Latvia's base VAT rate is 22%, reduced VAT rate – 12%.

 

The highest VAT rate is in Hungary – 27%, followed by Denmark and Sweden – 25%.

 

The third highest VAT rate is in Romania – 24%. Ireland, Greece, Finland, Poland and Portugal have 23% VAT rates, writes LETA.

 

Latvia has the fifth highest VAT rate across the EU – 22%, Belgium, Italy and Lithuania have the sixth highest – 21%.

 

The lowest VAT rate is in Luxembourg – 15%, Cyprus has the second lowest – 17%. Spain and Malta have 18% VAT rates.

 

The fourth lowest VAT rate is in Germany and the Netherlands – 15%, followed by France – 19.6%, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia and Great Britain – 20%.

 

There are currently 12 different VAT rates in the EU. All countries, with the exception of Denmark, have reduced VAT rates ranging from 5 to 18%.
