Lithuania ahead of many European countries in terms of Internet access in households

The survey conducted by the market research and public opinion company Baltijos Tyrimai revealed that almost seven in ten adult Lithuanian residents have used the Internet during the past year, and two thirds of households have access to the Internet.

The survey showed that the majority of the Internet users is youth aged 18-29 (96%), people aged 30-49 (88%), people who have obtained higher education (91%) and residents of major residents (78%).

 

Women access the Internet slightly more often than men, 72 and 64% respectively. Half (51%) of Lithuania's residents most often use the Internet at home or via mobiles phones, reports LETA/ELTA.

 

Over one tenth (12%) of respondents most often navigate the Internet at work, and one in 20 people mostly use the Internet in other places, such as public libraries (3%), scholastic institutions (1%) and Internet cafes (1%). As many as 65% of Lithuania's households have access to the Internet.

 

According to Rasa Alisauskiene, the director of the company Baltijos Tyrimai, the survey's data reveals that the volumes of the Internet users in Lithuania are growing rapidly, while in terms of the Internet access in households, Lithuania is already ahead of many European countries. "Speaking about the Internet penetration in Lithuania, our country definitely can be proud of it. Spain, Italy, Greece, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Latvia and many other European countries are lagging behind Lithuania in terms of the Internet access in households," Alisauskiene said.

 

The survey was conducted in April 14-17, 504 adult Lithuanian residents were surveyed. The bias of the survey results does not exceed 4.5%.
