Latvians made 11% more recreational trips with overnight stays in Q2

The survey on the domestic trips of Latvian population conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau show that in the 2nd quarter of 2010 there were 1.1 mln recreational trips with overnight stays which is more by 11% than in the 2nd quarter of 2009.

Reasons which prevented Latvian population from trips were financial conditions (53%), lack of time (18%), lack of interest (6%), other reasons (23%).

 

Of all recreational trips with overnight stays most popular destinations were Riga region – 33%, Kurzeme – 21%, Vidzeme – 18%, Latgale – 15% and Zemgale – 13%.

 

The average length of recreational trips with overnight stays was 2.2 visitor nights, of which the average length of the long trips (4 and more nights) was 9.2 visitor nights.

17% of population preferred recreational trips with overnight stays, and during single trip one traveller on average spent LVL 21.1, and it is LVL 0.4 less than in the 2nd quarter of 2009.

 

The majority of residents travelling for recreational purposes and staying overnight (87%) were accommodated in private lodgings (at relatives and friends, in summer cottages, in rented houses and flats, etc.). Recreational trips with overnight stays were mostly preferred by women (53.7%). The majority of travellers (36.8%) were aged 25-44 years.
