Purchase prices of round timber in Latvia rose by 3-7 LVL/m3 in H1

In 1st half of 2010 gradual growth of round timber purchase prices in Latvia continues, according to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau. That can be explained with the fact that in sawmills of Latvia products of first stage processing due to the growing external demand have retrieved the competitiveness. But in global markets, in turn, prices of goods produced from industrial timber have increased. Compared to the 2nd half of 2009 average purchase prices of round timber in 1st half of 2010 rose by 3-7 LVL/m3.

Purchase prices of pine sawlogs, if compared to the previous half, have grown by 5-7 LVL or on average by 17%, but prices of spruce sawlogs – by 4-7 LVL or by 18%.

Moreover, more noticeable growth witnessed assortments of smaller diameter. Average purchase prices of black alder and asp sawlogs have increased by 12-13%, and of packing timber – by 19%.

The most stable situation was observed in birch veneer log segment. There prices have retained the level of previous reference period.
