The Institute of Economic Research noted that although motor fuel prices in Estonia continue to be rather low in comparison to the rest of Europe, the local fuel retailers have raised prices at the same pace as in the countries with higher price level, writes LETA/Postimees Online.

According to the institute’s price survey carried out in European capitals, the prices of petrol 95E have in Estonia grown by 3.5% in the past three months – just as much as in the neighbouring country Finland.

The survey demonstrated that in March a litre of petrol in manned filling stations in Tallinn cost 17.08 kroons while by the beginning of June the price had grown to 17.68 kroons. In Helsinki the prices of petrol grew from 22.20 kroons to 22.77 kroons.

Despite the price surge, however, the prices of 95E petrol in Estonia are by ten% lower than the average in the countries included in the comparison. Only in Latvia and in Poland the petrol prices are lower.

The prices of diesel fuel are by one% lower than the European average.

The Institute of Economic Research carried out the pricing survey from May 31 to June 6 and the compared fuel prices were those implemented in filling stations with manned service that had stores or kiosks affiliated. 11 European cities were included in the survey – Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius, Warsaw, Prague, Bratislava, Budapest, Helsinki, Stockholm, Berlin and Amsterdam.
