Rimi Baltic sales decreased by 8.8% in 8 months

Sales volume at the retail company Rimi Baltic supermarkets has dropped 8.8% (VAT excluded) in the first eight months of 2009 year-on-year, as Rimi Latvia marketing public relations manager, Zane Enina, informed LETA.

The sales volume of Rimi Baltic from January to August this year reached EUR 696.4 million, Rimi Eesti Food in Estonia posted EUR 214 million sales volume, Rimi Latvia – EUR 339 million, Rimi Lietuva in Lithuania – EUR 143.5 million.

 

This past August, compared to August 2008, sales volumes of 'Rimi Baltic shrank 18.6% and totaled EUR 95 million (VAT excluded). Compared to August 2008, sales volumes of 'Rimi Latvia decreased by 18.7% in August 2009, Rimi Eesti Food – by 15.6%, and Rimi Lietuva by 22.4%.

 

As reported, the amendments to the Law on Value-Added Tax envisaging an increase in the tax from 18 to 21% came into force on January 1, 2009. Therefore, in order to compare the turnover figures, the tax is excluded from the calculations.

 

Rimi Baltic has 243 stores in the Baltic States, including 77 in Estonia, 101 in Latvia and 65 in Lithuania.

 

As reported, Rimi Baltic consolidated annual turnover reached LVL 464.99 million in 2008; its earnings after tax and before minority interest reached LVL 13.18 million, according to the Register of Enterprises' Lursoft data.

 

According to the survey "TOP 101" list of Latvia's most valuable enterprises carried out by the business magazine "Kapitals", in cooperation with investment banking company IBS Prudentia and Riga Stock Exchange, Rimi Latvia (worth LVL 101.38 million) was the 22nd most valuable enterprise in Latvia in 2008.
