Gerhards: Gas power plant to cost LVL 270 million

Alla Petrova, BC, Riga, 30.04.2008.Print version
The construction of a gas power plant in Latvia could cost approximately LVL 270 million, whilst the cost of a solid fuel power plant in Latvia could cost approximately LVL 421 million, according to calculations carried out by the Economy Ministry.

Kaspars Gerhards.

This information was revealed by Economy Minister Kaspars Gerhards (For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK) in the latest Energo Forums publication, published by joint-stock energy company Latvenergo.

The minister said that state support of the power plants might manifest differently – in case of a gas-fuelled plant as participation in the transmission tariffs cost, but the support for a solid fuel plant will materialize as financing of the project development. Expert conclusions reveal that the price of energy from a gas fuel plant will be 0.2 santims per kilowatt/hour.

The minister also said that a solid fuel power plant will be supported by covering the costs of a field study, environmental impact assessment and other work to be done in the pre-project period. State support of the above mentioned tasks, before possibly constructing the solid fuel power plant, could be in the area of LVL 2.5 million.
