Consumption in Baltic countries converging towards EU average at rapid pace

In 2014, actual individual consumption (AIC) per capita, expressed in purchasing power standards (PPS), reached 81% of the EU average in Lithuania (up from 74% in 2012), 68% in Estonia (up from 65%) and 65% in Latvia (up from 61%).
Clear increases have also been recorded in the Czech Republic (up to 76% from 72%) and Slovakia (up to 77% from 73%).
Meanwhile, Lithuania’s GDP per capita expressed in PPS rose by 2 percentage points in 2014 from 2013, to 75% of the EU average. The respective rates in Estonia and Latvia were 76% and 64%, respectively.
Actual individual consumption consists of goods and services actually consumed by individuals, irrespective of whether these goods and services are purchased and paid for by households, by government, or by non-profit organizations.
