Latvia has second fastest broadband Internet in the world

Latvia has the second fastest broadband Internet in the world, according to a broadband Internet speed index published by the company Ookla. Lithuania came tenth with a speed of 16.70 Mbps, while Estonia was 20th with 11.53 Mbps.

The fastest Internet in the world is in South Korea, where the average download speed is 34.14 megabits per second (Mbps), compared with a world average of 7.67 Mbps, writes LETA.

 

Latvia is in second place in the index with a speed index of 24.29 Mbps, ahead of Moldova (21.37 Mbps), Japan (20.29 Mbps) and Sweden (19.78 Mbps).

 

The average download speed for the U.S. is 10.16 Mbps, putting it in 26th place.

 

Last place among the 154 countries studied was taken by Zambia, where the average download speed is 260 kilobits per second (Kbps).

 

In the list of the fastest cities, the South Korean capital Seoul came first with 34.66 Mbps, followed by Riga with 27.90 Mbps and Hamburg with 26.87 Mbps.

 

Ookla used the company's speed measurement system "speedtest.net" to carry out the research.

 

At least 90% of the data used was gathered from speed tests carried out by residents of each location.
