Estonian ID cards to be produced by Swiss company Trüb

The Estonian state and Swiss company Trüb AG concluded last week a 5-year contract for producing and personalising the new Estonian ID cards and biometric residence permit cards that are in line with EU directives, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

According to the contract, the ID cards and residence permit cards will be produced in Switzerland and personalised in Estonia, in AS Trüb Baltic. The certificates for the new documents will be generated by the certification centre.

 

The number of electronic users of ID card has increased fast this year and reaches over 325,000 already, also constantly new services and upgrades to existing e-services are introduced.

 

The new generation electronic identification cards are based on the java technology platform developed by Trüb which enables to safely and flexibly link different applications of the card.

 

The new electronic ID card includes a contact chip into which the public key infrastructure has been integrated, enabling authentication and digital signing as well as using different e-government and e-trade services and giving access to local transport system.

 

The new residence permit cards include a non-contact chip that has special functions for travelling in the Schengen area.
