When show host Trevor Noah recalled Jeb Bush as having said that in Estonia people can fill out their tax returns online in five minutes, Roivas said "it used to be so." "We have upgraded the system, now it's three minutes, on the average," he added
The prime minister said that he did his last year's taxes at the Luxembourg airport.
Further on the interview focused on online voting, which has been possible in elections in Estonia since 2005.
"The last parliamentary elections went very well, my party won," Roivas said, adding that the Reform Party won both when it comes online votes and conventional votes.
"People of all ages vote online, for example also my grandfather, who was 80 at the time," Roivas said.
When the show host referred to Roivas's youth, the 36-year-old prime minister of Estonia said being the youngest head of government in Europe is a certain competitive advantage in some situations.
Speaking about the improvement of ties with Cuba that President Barack Obama has embarked upon, Roivas emphasized the importance of objective information received from abroad in doing away with autocratic regimes.
"Actually, getting information from outside is a big part of becoming a democracy. It happened in Estonia. Estonia used to be occupied by the Soviet Union. We just regained our independence 25 years ago. And one of the ways to get information from the free world before that was either Finnish television or Voice of America," Roivas said.
On the subject of Tuesday's terrorist acts in Brussels, the Estonian prime minister stressed that those who are running from war and terror should not be blamed for the acts committed by terrorists. And one must not succumb to the will of terrorists. "Terrorists want us to be afraid, they want us to build walls between European countries, close the Schengen area. If we do that, they have won," he said.
Lauri Tankler, U.S. correspondent of the Estonian public broadcaster ERR, said on Twitter that Roivas's appearance on The Daily Show may have been the biggest promotion that Estonia has ever received in the United States.
The Daily Show is an American late-night talk and news satire television program. It became famous under its previous host Jon Stewart and is as of last year hosted by Trevor Noah.
