The Estonian cartography group AS Regio has sold its mapping and geospatial data processing unit OU Regio to the management while its software solutions branch AS Reach-U will continue operations as usual, informs LETA/BNS.

OU Regio that makes maps and processes geoinformation is an old company with a well-known name and trademark but a new enterprise in legal terms. AS Reach-U is a software company, an old firm in legal terms whose business name until last year was Regio, the company said.

The founder of Reach-U/Regio Teet Jagomagi said the map solutions division was sold because the company wants to focus more on creating big IT solutions using novel technology for mobile operators across the world.

Regio wants to continue offering high quality cartography products across the world. "We'll certainly continue publishing Regio road atlases, producing wall maps and selling various spatial data in Estonia. For the new season a new series of maps-cum-travel guides and several new map solutions are in preparation. We offer map solutions in cooperation with Reach-U and several other software developers," Regio head Leida Lepik said.

OU Regio employs 17 people and is currently owned by six of its employees. The company targets sales of around 500,000 euros in 2016. Its maps are sold in six countries of the world.

Reach-U is present in 34 countries of the world, creating software solutions in the fields of mobile communications, energy, forestry, security, smart city, tourism and transport. The services of the company are accessible to millions of users through 25 mobile operators. It has a staff of 51.
