Ziemelis, partners investing EUR 17 mln in Moscow airport

Lithuanian businessman Gediminas Ziemelis and partners are investing more than 20 million US dollars (EUR 17 mln) in the Zhukovsky Airport they operate close to the Russian capital Moscow, Verslo Zinios business daily said. The investment will go towards airport expansion to attract low-cost and cargo airlines, reports LETA/BNS.

"Next year we intend to expand the passenger terminal by 10,000 square meters. We will do this without loans from banks. We plan to expand the terminal to enable it to handle up to 7 million passengers per year. Then we will be able to invite one of the bigger airlines. The necessary aggregate investment is 20-22 million US dollars (EUR 17-18.7 mln). By the way, the terminal expansion will also add more airplane parking spots – we will additionally build 15 spots, with investment in the infrastructure totaling at 12 million US dollars (EUR 10.2 mln)," Ziemelis told the daily.

 

In his words, the airport will also expand its freight terminal, with construction of a 10,000-square-meter freight terminal already underway in the additional territory purchased by the airport. The enlargement will raise the volume of freight handled at the airport to 120,000 tons per year.

 

Launched in May of 2016, the Zhukovsky Airport, which is the fourth-largest airport in Moscow, is reportedly operated by Ramport Aero. Some 25% of the company's shares are owned by vehicle exhibition complex Russia, which is part of the state-run civilian and military industry production and exports concern Rostec. The remaining 75% of Ramport Aero's shares are owned by private investors, including 30% owned by Ziemelis' Avia Solutions Group quoted in the Warsaw Stock Exchange and the remaining shares owned by related persons.
