Skeleton racer Martins Dukurs included in the Guinness Book of Records

Latvian skeleton racer Martins Dukurs has been included in the
Guinness Book of Records for his impressive performance of four consecutive
World Cup Championship titles. He has participated in the Skeleton World Cup
series undefeated since the season of 2009/10 whilst having very formidable
competition, informs BC, referring to
the Latvian Institute.
So far, Dukurs has won 27 World Cup stages, stepping on the pedestal a total of
38 times. Other achievements include two consecutive FIBT World Championships,
four European Championships, as well as a silver medal in the 2010 Winter
Olympic Games in Vancouver. Dukurs has also been named Latvia’s best male
athlete of 2013.
The Dukurs family is well known in the world of winter sports as Martins’ older
brother Tomass Dukurs is also a
professional skeleton racer. Tomass has recently demonstrated excellent
results, rivaling Martins with a third and second place in the Skeleton World
Cup seasons of 2012 and 2013 respectively. Their father, Dainis Dukurs, is also a retired bobsledder, currently coaching
both his sons.
