Riga City Council member and a representative of the Environmental Protection and Regional Development Ministry Viesturs Zeps (For Development of Latvia) was appointed chairman of the Freeport of Riga board, while the Economics Ministry's representative Pavels Rebenoks was appointed deputy chairman of the board today, as the port's representative Liene Ozola informed LETA.

"As the chairman of the board, it will be my duty to strengthen and support the cooperation and dialog between the Freeport of Riga, the city, and residents of Riga," said Zeps, who was appointed to the Freeport of Riga board in 2019.

Rebenoks, who was also appointed to the Freeport of Riga last year, said that strengthening competitiveness and position of the Riga Port was important for the stability and development of the entire Latvian economy. "Ensuring successful and uninterrupted operation of the Freeport of Riga is of vital importance, and I see it as one of my main tasks as the deputy Chairman of the Board," he said.

The Freeport of Riga board is made up of four representatives appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers, nominated by the economics, finance, transport and environmental protection ministers.

The Finance Ministry is represented by Baiba Bane, Transport Ministry by Andris Ozolins, Economics Ministry by Rebenoks, and Environmental Protection and Regional Development Ministry by Zeps.
