Procedures at Riga Airport not to change after Brexit
The UK is already outside the Schengen Area, so passengers have to undergo border control, while security requirements are stipulated by international legislative acts, which are the same for Latvia and the UK regardless of Brexit.
Karnite indicated that none of the airlines operating at Riga Airport has informed about any Brexit-related changes in their flight scheduled.
Aivis Vincevs, a representative of the Civil Aviation Agency (CAA), told LETA that Latvian national carrier airBaltic will be operating direct flights from Riga and Tallinn to the UK like before also after Brexit, with no significant changes expected for the passengers.
Meanwhile, UK citizens will continue to enjoy their rights of free movement within the EU during the transition period, which ends December 31, 2020. Border control procedures and residence rules will remain the same as well.
Traveling rules for children visiting the UK will also remain unchanged, which means kids will be able to travel on the same documents indicated in the government regulations of August 3, 2010.
Although according to current information, EU citizens will be able to enter the UK on passports and ID cards during the transition period, CAA recommends air passengers flying to the UK to take passports with them, Vincevs said.
The UK's formal departure from the EU, scheduled for 11:00 p.m. December 31. 2020, will be followed by a transition period during which customs requirements and procedures will remain unchanged for individual travelers visiting the UK, postal deliveries between EU member states and the UK, as well as EU companies that have business partners in the UK, representatives of the State Revenue Service informed LETA.
