Latvia: Farmers' organization urges residents to buy local food products during the crisis

The Latvian Agricultural Organization Cooperation Council is urging Latvian residents to buy local products produced by Latvian farmers, the council informed LETA.

"By choosing Latvian products, we have the opportunity to provide our family with quality, safe food and demonstrate our patriotism by supporting local farmers. There are enterprising and active people in the countryside who produce enough products we need every day.

Furthermore, these products are of better quality than those produced on plantations, which are processed for long-term storage," said the council.

The Agricultural Organization Cooperation Council points out that the supply of fruit and vegetables to restaurants, bars, schools, kindergartens and many other businesses and institutions has come to a standstill, and the industry has dropped by 70% to 90%. However, consuming quality milk products, meat, bread, eggs, vegetables is as important as ever, and residents who buy local products also contribute to Latvia's economic development, which is especially important in the current crisis.

A crisis is a time when everyone can revise their priorities and all people together can not only identify the mistakes of the past, but also successfully correct them and draw conclusions about what needs to be changed in the near future, said the council, emphasizing that people also had to support each other and help those unable to provide for themselves.

According to the council, Latvian farmers and the food production industry are able to provide all the necessary food products to the Latvian population in the long term.
