Karins convenes meeting of Crisis Management Council in relation to coronavirus outbreak in Europe

Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) has convened a meeting of the Crisis Management Council in relation to the outbreak of coronavirus Covid-19 in Europe, the prime minister's office reported.

The Crisis Management Council will hear reports of the Health Ministry and other responsible institutions on the development of the situation and the necessary measures.


Karins said after the coalition meeting on Monday that the previous Crisis Management Coucil meeting was held a week ago and discussed the action plan in relation to the coronavirus. Considering the latest information on the outbreak of the virus in Italy, the Council will meet again to discuss possible amendments to the plan.

The Council plans also to discuss the proposal of the National Alliance to halt air traffic between Latvia and the Italian cities stricken by the coronavirus.


Today the state operational medical commission decided to expand the measures restricting the coronavirus, including more countries and territories in the list - China, South Korea, Iran, Italy's regions of Lombardy and Veneto. When arriving from these regions, people should take precautionary measures. Also, residents who plan to travel to these regions should consider the necessity of trip and follow recommendations of local authorities.
