Lartvia: Finance Ministry might come up with tax change proposals in February
BC, Riga, 15.01.2020.Print version
he Finance Ministry in early February might come up with the initial proposal on tax changes, said Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) in an interview with commercial TV3 channel today.
He underscored that what is planned is not a massive reform, just some improvements that will make the tax system fairer and also unfriendly to shadow economy.
"Many start to understand that most of the employees are paying in line with one tax regime, while others quite legally are paying lower taxes. Is that fair, if everybody expects the same level of health care services, the same social guarantees, the same education for their children? We should find what can be done to correct all this, so that everyone's contribution to the system is equal," the prime minister said.
As soon as the Finance Ministry comes up with its proposal, it will be discussed in public, among experts and also at the parliament, said the prime minister.
