Latvia: Health Ministry to seek extension of e-health project

BC, Riga, 31.01.2020.Print version
The Health Ministry will ask the government to extend the deadline for the e-health project, Health Minister Ilze Vinkele's (For Development/For) spokesman Edgars Skvariks told LETA.

He said that the National Health Service in cooperation with the Health Ministry is currently drafting a report to the Cabinet of Ministers in which the government will be asked to extend the project's deadline. The report will also explain the project's current situation, the minister's spokesman said.

Skvariks indicated that the Health Ministry and the National Health Service are working on issues related to the e-health project in close cooperation with the Environmental Protection and Regional Development Ministry and the Central Finance and Contracting Agency.

This week, representatives of the Finance Ministry informed members of the Saeima Public Expenditure and Audit Committee that EUR 8.5 mln from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) have been earmarked for further work on the e-health project. Given the absence of progress, lack of capacity and uncertainties associated with the action plan, as well as the Health Ministry's reluctance to cooperate, the ministry has expressed concerns about meeting the project's existing deadline.

It was also indicated at the meeting that if the Health Ministry's proposal for the use of the ERDF funding is not convincing enough, the money could be reallocated to other projects.
