BC, Vilnius, 17.01.2020.Print version
The European Investment Bank's office for the Baltic states has been opened in Vilnius on Thursday. The EIB hopes the new office will bring it closer to this market, provide greater capability and ensure closer cooperation with national government institutions, informed LETA/BNS.
"The opening of our office for the Baltic states is very timely and necessary. It will ensure further cooperation and will help to deal with both local and global challenges the Baltic states are facing," EIB President Werner Hoyer said.
The office will start its activity on February 1 and will be led by Marco Francini.
In 2019, the EIB allocated almost 530 mln euros for projects in the Baltic states, with over 2.5 bn euros provided over the past five years, with the energy and transport sectors being the main beneficiaries.
Lithuania joint the EIB, established under the Treaty of Rome in 1958, in 2004.
