Lithuania's major retailers invested EUR 88.4 mln in expansion in 2019

Lithuania's top five supermarket chains invested a total of 88.4 million euros in expansion last year, according to the business daily Verslo Zinios information reported LETA/BNS.

This includes 30.4 mln euros invested by Lidl, 23 mln euros by Maxima, 15 mln euros by Norfa, and 10 mln euros by Rimi and Iki each. 


Lidl is now not only building its own standard stores, but is also looking for other forms of expansion.


Maxima, which has the largest number of retail outlets, opened seven new stores and closed six in 2019. Lidl, Rimi and Norfa opened five new stores each. The latter chain closed three stores. Iki closed three outlets and renovated 19 existing stores.
