Salary of airBaltic CEO Gauss exceeds EUR 1 million in 2016

Martin Gauss was paid EUR 1.042 mln in salary as CEO of Latvia’s airBaltic national carrier last year, which was 23.5% more than a year before, according to his asset declaration submitted to the State Revenue Service. airBaltic closed 2016 with a EUR 1.2 mln profit, writes LETA.

Gauss did not earn any other income in 2016.

The airBaltic CEO’s declaration also reveals that Gauss bought a Mercedes Benz auto for EUR 45,000, works of art for EUR 21,000 and a BMW Carbrio vehicle for EUR 20,000, which he later gave away. He also paid EUR 15,000 for services and spent EUR 20,000 and EUR 22,000 on unspecified purchases.


Last year, Gauss used a BMW, a Tesla and a Volkswagen auto, as well as owned a Canam Qard quadbike and a Mercedes Benz auto.


Gauss’ debts decreased by EUR 80,000 over the year to EUR 300,000 at the end of 2016.


The airBaltic CEO’s savings in bank accounts decreased last year. At the end of 2016, Gauss had EUR 163,500 in total in his bank accounts in Germany, Italy, Austria and Latvia. The airBaltic head had saved up EUR 88,000 with Germany’s Ergo Insurance.


The public official’s asset declaration also shows that Gauss owned buildings in Germany, Austria and Italy, as well as 100 percent in German company MaGau worth EUR 25,000 and 100 percent in German company AirBerlin Plc&Co worth EUR 56.


Gauss has been heading airBaltic since November 1, 2011.


As reported, airBaltic closed 2016 with a EUR 1.2 mln profit, which was several times smaller than in 2015 when the company posted EUR 19.5 mln in annual profit. The airline’s turnover, meanwhile, rose by 1% y-o-y to EUR 286 mln in 2016.
