Russian Yandex Taxi admits that it provides information to Russian security services
The company's spokeswoman Natalia Rozhkova said it in an interview with the portal. Rozhkova said that the company has the duty to provide data in response to official requests from security services.
Meanwhile, Yandex Taxi international press service head Natalia Zhuravlova told LETA that in line with the Russian legislation, all organization and companies in Russia must provide data to state authorities if there has been an official request. She said that this refers also to Yandex Taxi.
At the same time, Yandex Taxi application in Latvia is run by Dutch-registered company Yandex Taxi B.V. that follows the EU legislation, including the General Data Protection Regulation. In case Russian authorities decided to request information from Yandex Taxi B.V., they have to follow international procedures, turn to Interpol with official request, said Zhuravlova.
