During a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Thursday, Latvian Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) confirmed that oil could be delivered to Belarus through Latvian ports, writes LETA.

After his meeting with Lukashenko, the Latvian prime minster told journalists that when it comes to developing bilateral economic ties, "transportation and logistics where we already have relations represent the most logical way".

"On the one hand, it is possible to export oil products from Belarus via Latvian ports. We could also discuss another possibility – oil import from all over the world to Belarus via Latvia," Karins said, adding that such possibilities are being discussed already.

Karins also pointed out that the Latvian government considers it very important to improve and strengthen relations with Belarus.

"We believe that there is a great potential for making these relations even better both on the political and economic level," the Latvian prime minister said.
