Covid-19: Finnish govt fails to agree on when travel ban will start
The transport administration of Finland has informed shippers that a travel restriction stricter still is about to be implemented. In accordance with the plan, passengers would be permitted to leave Finland for Estonia and Sweden alike, but entering Finland would no longer be allowed. The ferries would be reserved exclusively for cargo traffic.
The government of Finland now wants to keep the ferry option open for some more time as a big number of Finnish nationals trapped in Europe is still en route to Finland.
When exactly the ban will take effect was not known on the afternoon of March 31.
As things stand, cargo transportation between Helsinki and Tallinn is continued by the Tallink ferry Megastar, as well as Viking XPRS and Eckero Line. The shippers whose ferries are taking goods to Finland are sponsored in maintaining the operation by the National Emergency Supply Agency of Finland.
