Campaign to bring together Russian-speaking employees and public sector employers in Estonia

BC, Tallinn, 05.04.2017.Print version
The Integration and Migration Foundation of Estonia is about to launch an information campaign for linguistic diversity, aimed at bringing together Russian-speaking employees and public sector employers, writes LETA/BNS.

With the aid of the campaign events, Russian-speaking young people will be informed of potential career opportunities in the public sector, told the Integration Foundatio. In addition to that, managers in the public sector will be notified of the expectations of young people towards public sector employers. The topic will also be covered in social media.

According to Dmitri Burnasev, director of the Integration and Migration Foundation, the long-term aim of the events is to create better opportunities for Estonian citizens with a different native language to work in the public sector. "Today, only about 5% of the staff in the public sector have a different native language, which, considering the Estonian population, is a disproportionately small part. With this campaign, we aim to increase the general awareness of the potential career opportunities within the public sector and in the long run to increase the number of employees and public servants with a native language other than Estonian," Burnasev said.

Various information events, geared towards both high school and university students, are planned within the framework of the campaign. During the day of diversity, the Ministry of Social Affairs will be sharing experiences on the topic of staff diversity. In collaboration with the Government Office and the Ministry of Finance, information seminars will be organized in schools and universities to introduce career opportunities in the public sector.

A series of broadcasts titled "Day of Shadowing," to be aired on ETV+, will show a Russian-speaking young person shadowing a government official during their workday. The first episode of the series portrays the workday of Dmitri Jegorov, deputy secretary general of tax and customs policy at the Ministry of Finance.

The campaign was initiated by the Ministry of Culture and the Integration and Migration Foundation and is supported by the European Social Fund. The campaign will kick off on Wednesday and campaign events will continue until June.
