Support for euro currency on the rise in Latvia - survey

In Latvia, public support for the European Union's single currency, the euro, has risen by 10 percentage points from 2016 and now stands at 63%, according to a public opinion poll published by Politico.

The share of Latvians who do not support the euro has dropped by six percentage points to 19%.


The share of undecided respondents in Latvia has decreased by one percentage point to 12%.


The strongest support for the euro currency was recorded in Ireland (85%), Luxembourg (80%), Austria (76%), Finland (75%), Slovenia (72%), Estonia (71%) and Germany (70%).


Meanwhile, the lowest support for the euro was recorded in Lithuania (42%), Cyprus (47%), Italy (57%), as well as Belgium and Greece (60% in both countries).


Of the roughly 17,000 people surveyed across the EU, 64% expressed support for the euro currency and 25% said they did not back the single currency.
