Latvia records EU's second steepest increase in industrial production output in February

This past February, Latvia recorded the European Union's second highest increase in industrial production y-o-y, according to Eurostat report published today.

Latvia's industrial production output in February 2017 was 10.6% higher than in February 2016.


Greece registered the EU's steepest increase in industrial production in February – 11.2%. Estonia's industrial production output rose 9%, followed by Malta - 7%. Industrial production in Lithuania increased 5.8% in February 2017.


Among the 25 member states for which data are available, industrial production increased in 21 EU member states and decreased in two.


The only reductions were registered in Ireland - by 10%, and France - by 0.8%.

Compared to January, industrial production output increased in 14 EU countries, but reduced in nine.


M-o-m  industrial production output rose the most in Bulgaria and Slovenia (3.6%), Hungary (3.4%) and Latvia (3.2%). Meanwhile, in Estonia it rose by 2.4%, and in Lithuania by 1.1 %.

The biggest m-o-m reduction was registered in Ireland (-15.5%), France (-1.6%), and Croatia (-1.5%).


Year-on-year, industrial production output in the EU increased 2.1% and in the eurozone by 1.2%. Compared to January, industrial production output in the EU fell by 0.2%, while the euro area's industrial production output decreased 0.3%.
