Matiss hopes to intensify Latvia-Belarus cooperation in transport

Latvian and Belarusian state institutions are already cooperating actively, as do businessmen from both countries; furthermore, there are ways to intensify this cooperation, Transport Minister Anrijs Matiss (Unity) said during a working visit in Belarus today, cites LETA.

Matiss explained that Belarus is an export-focused country, whereas Latvia's transport infrastructure and logistical opportunities could facilitate the development of this cooperation.

 

Minsk is hosting the 10th session of Belarus-Latvia Intergovernmental Commission on economic, scientific and technological cooperation today.

 

During the session, a long list of matters concerning the transport and communications field was discussed. The Transport Ministry's State Secretary Kaspars Ozolins, Latvijas Dzelzcels President Ugis Magonis, and Latvijas auto President Valdis Trezins reported on the said matters.

 

After the session, several intergovernmental documents were signed, including protocol of the 10th session of Belarus-Latvia Intergovernmental Commission, a plan of Latvia-Belarus joint measures for 2015, memorandum of understanding between both countries' transport ministries, and others.
