Norma of Estonia to cut 52 jobs as carmakers halt production

Juhan Tere, BC, Tallinn, 17.02.2009.Print version
Norma will cut 52 jobs and reduce working hours for 589 employees in March 2009 as the Estonian seatbelt maker's clients shutter plants for February and March, financial service agency Bloomberg/LETA reported.

Norma is controlled by Swedens Autoliv AB.

The production halt and drop in volumes is temporary, the Tallinn-based company said in a stock exchange filing today.

"However, it is difficult to estimate when and at which level of production volumes the situation will stabilize," the representatives of Norma said.

The company had 918 staff at the end of last year.
