Presidential Press Service informed LETA that in his speech, the president indicated that the core of extending cooperation between Europe and Asia lies within interconnectivity.

"The current sea routes already connect our continents. Now we should focus on facilitating a multi-modal transport network, paying the largest attention to the modernization of our current railroads and road infrastructure, as well as the establishment of new connections. In order to conclude these discussions on the highest level possible, Latvia will host the 4th annual Eurasian transport corridor conference in April, 2015," the president said, adding that consolidation of the current infrastructure and improvement of service quality are important aspects in regard to the so-called Eurasian transport beltway.
