Freeport of Riga increases fees by 6.85%

The Freeport of Riga board has confirmed new changes in port fees, which means that incoming ships will have to pay a cargo or canal fee of 6.85% higher than initially, the company informed the business portal Nozare.lv, cites LETA.

Cruise and "Ro-Pax" ships are exempt from the new regulation.

 

The Freeport of Riga explains that last time port fees were increased in 2006.

 

Furthermore, the Freeport of Riga Development program 2009-2028, and Strategy plan 2013-2015, requires that the company's income be increased, taking into account that since 2006, services used by the port – construction cost index, electric power, gas, fuel – have increased by 60% on average.

 

As reported, the Freeport of Riga handled 26.66 million tons of cargo in January-August 2014, 14.2% more than in the respective period in 2013.
