As the Transport Ministry explains, taking into account that Belarus is an export orientated country which is currently actively developing its trade and logistics centers, Latvia called for Belarus to develop its infrastructure capacity at Latvian ports.
Matiss also expressed the readiness to organize visits to Latvia by experts from Belarus, in order to better acquaint them with the opportunities Latvia's trnasit corridor and infrastructure provides.
During the meeting, the transport ministries of both countries admitted that entrepreneurs from both countries should establish companies and joint ventures in the other country, thus substantially increasing the level of trust for further cooperation.
After the discussion, the cooperation memorandums between the logistics associations of Latvia and Belarus as well as between Latvijas dzelzels (Latvian railroad) and the General Directorate of Belarus highways at the Transport and communication Ministry were signed.
