Estonian Interior Minister Hanno Pevkur said in national television ETV talk show "Forum" Wednesday evening that the state intends to establish a special border guard unit with two headquarters at Estonia's Eastern border in Narva and Piusa border guard station and very likely one in Tallinn, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

"Today, there is a clear realization that in addition to the ordinary border guard work, we will create a special border guard unit. The police have one and now we create it in the border guard," said Pevkur. "They will do very specific work based on risk assessments."

The units will be created starting 2015, and this has been already agreed upon with the Police and Border Guard Board, Pevkur said.

"The main locations of the unit will be Piusa border guard station, which next year will be completely rebuilt and in Narva, i.e. the two most critical areas," said Pevkur.

"They will respond to border incidents and will carry out special operations based on risk assessments," said the minister, who promised that the special unit members will have the best weaponry and equipment possible.
