A Factum & Ariko fresh public opinion survey showed that, as compared to May, the share of Rail Baltica project supporters in Estonia has fallen by 5% to 68% of respondents, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

71% of the Estonian population has heard of the plan of the international railway connection Rail Baltica, and 68% of respondents support its implementation.

The awareness about Rail Baltica was the lowest in the 15-24 age group, 58% of whom are familiar with the project. In all other groups, the awareness is over 73%. Among Estonian-speaking people, 80% are informed of the project, among non-Estonians, 46%.

"The general awareness about Rail Baltica is according to the fresh study more or less at the same level as in the previous survey conducted in May, showing a couple of percent rise. The awareness of non-Estonians has increased 6%," said Factum & Ariko project manager Liina Märtin.

75% of the people familiar with the project consider its impact on Estonia positive. Respondents pointed out as positive effects of the project mainly the revival of trade, freedom of movement and freedom of travel and growth of travel speed. The negative affects listed were the effect on the life situation of people living next to the route- homes and land and damage to the environment.
